Community invited to celebrate care home open day

Staff and residents at Braemount Bupa Care Home on Donaldswood Road in Paisley are preparing to offer everyone a warm welcome and a taste of typical care home life at a fun-packed event which is being held to mark Care Home Open Day.

Care Home Open Day, a joint initiative by all of the UK’s leading care providers, aims to showcase everything that’s good about care homes, showing what enjoyable and stimulating places they can be to both live and work in. It also aims to encourage local people to visit care homes in their community.

Braemount is inviting the community to join them on Friday 17 June between 2 - 4pm for their garden party and live music concert.

A New Care Home for Sutton

People in Sutton are now able to get a glimpse of what life will be like at the newest care home in the area. The new care and nursing home, which is being developed by specialist care provider Gracewell Healthcare, will combine state of the art facilities and services of a high quality care home, with the design and feel of a boutique hotel. Each Gracewell room is modelled after a star from the golden age of Hollywood cinema. Residents can choose from interiors styled on actors including Cary Grant and Marilyn Monroe.

Hannah Montgomery jumps out of a plane at 13,000ft for the elderly

Hannah Montgomery, of everyLIFE Technologies, has taken up the challenge of jumping out of a plane from 13,000ft for Contact The Elderly. Hannah has already raised more than double of her original £500 target to partake in the parachute jump at Hinton-in-the-Hedges Airfield on 14th May 2016. Hannah said: ‘I decided to take part in this challenge for Contact The Elderly because since working at everyLIFE Technologies (a care management software) I became aware of how lonely elderly life can be. It’s great to think that I will be raising funds to help support vulnerable, lonely people to eat cake, have a cucumber sandwich and most importantly have regular social interaction.’

NRS Healthcare give back to carers by launching their online Carer Awards 2016 campaign

Ahead of Carers Week 2016, which runs from 6th-12th June, Leicester-based company NRS Healthcare are giving others the chance to celebrate carers they know by nominating them to win a prize during the NRS Healthcare Carer Awards 2016. As a market-leader within the healthcare sector, NRS Healthcare have been established for almost 70 years and, as such, have made it their focus to continually evolve with the opportunities presented by digital media.

With an expanding digital team at their Head Office in Bardon, this year they have launched their first Carer Awards online. The contest itself will be hosted via a tab on the NRS Healthcare official Facebook page with supporting messaging from other online channels, including their blog and Twitter account. 

NRS Healthcare supports the mental wellbeing of older people during #SilverWeek2016

Throughout their 69 year history, the NRS Healthcare team have been devoted to supporting the physical needs of older people, offering innovative equipment to help them lead an independent life. Now, the award-winning company is backing The Silver Line charity in their latest campaign to care for the mental wellbeing of older adults and help flag the issue of loneliness many feel on a daily basis.

#SilverWeek2016 will run from 15th – 21st May with an aim to not only raise awareness of loneliness in the older generations but also to recruit a number of volunteers from across the UK, encouraging them to become a Telephone Friend for The Silver Line.

Coveted Award Nod For Housing And Care Provider

One of the country’s most innovative care providers is celebrating after being recognised at the highest possible level with a nomination for a prestigious award. For the first time, Edinburgh-headquartered Blackwood Housing and Care has been shortlisted as a finalist for the coveted title of Small Housing Association of the Year at the 2016 Scottish Home Awards.

The nomination recognises Blackwood’s achievements over the past 12 months in enabling independent living through the use of innovative technology. In addition, it also acknowledges the care provider’s business growth and development of customer and community engagement through scrutiny panels, local partnerships, awards and fundraising.

GLASGOW CARE HOME WALKS THE WAY TO FUNDRAISING SUCCESS

Residents, staff and relatives at a care home in Glasgow have donned their walking boots for a charity close to their hearts by taking part in a ‘Walking Your Way To Healthy’ fundraising event. Thanks to their efforts, the committed group from Bupa’s Quayside care home on Halley Street, together with family, friends and members of the local community, raised an impressive £552 for Age UK.

In celebration of International Nurses’ Day, the RCN is calling on patients and their families to say thank you to the nurses who have touched their lives. The annual event on 12 May, the birthday of nursing legend Florence Nightingale, celebrates the amazing efforts of nursing staff in the UK and around the world. The RCN’s theme for 2016, the College’s centenary year, is #thankanurse, which encourages patients and their families to thank the nurses who have cared for them. It also gives health care staff the chance to thank their nursing colleagues for their support.

HATS OFF TO CARE HOME RESIDENTS THIS EASTER

Residents at a care home in Bellshill put their creative hats on and went head to head this week when they took part in an Easter bonnet competition.

Staff at Bupa’s Hatton Lea care home hosted the competition, encouraging the residents to get crafty and design their own unique headwear to be worn this coming Easter Sunday.
