Hill Care’s Macmillan Coffee Mornings raise hundreds

October 4, 2017

HUNDREDS of pounds have been raised for the fight against cancer after Hill Care homes across the north of England hosted charity coffee mornings.

The events were part of a UK wide campaign organised by cancer support charity Macmillan – named the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning.

Nine homes across the North East raised £331 between them, including: Ingleby Care Home, Ingleby Barwick, The Beeches Care Home, Stockton-on-Tees, Mandale House Care Home, Thornaby, The Gables Care Home, Middlesbrough, Queens Meadow Care Home, Hartlepool, Bannatyne Lodge Care Home, Peterlee, Pelton Grange Care Home, Chester Le Street, The Oaks Care Home, Blyth, and Waverley Lodge Care Home, Lemington.

Thornhill Care Home, in Huddersfield, also added to the Hill Care Group total, raising £30 with their coffee morning and ‘how tall is the cake’ competition.

All the homes invited residents and their relatives, friends and other visitors to enjoy a cup of tea or coffee and a slice of cake.

In Chester Le Street, Pelton Grange Care Home also hosted a Macmillan Bake Off competition, where residents and staff judged the entries.

At Lemington’s Waverley Lodge Care Home, residents got involved with the fundraising, impressing visitors such as Kathleen Murray, who donated £10.joan whitworth macmillan

Julie Booth, home manager at Waverley Lodge, said: “We were in the middle of showing our home to Kathleen when she commented on how impressed she was to see the residents getting involved with the fundraiser, so she dropped her donation in the collect box. How lovely!”

“We’re really proud of all our homes for getting involved, with many across the North West, Yorkshire, Derbyshire and East Midlands still counting their collections.

“Our thanks go to everyone who donated to such a worthy cause.”
