Space saving, safe surface temperature radiators specified for Cumbrian care home
Super slim profile, natural heat convection radiators from Autron have been specified and recently installed at the Elmhurst care home, in Cumbria. Elmhurst is a purpose built residential care home catering for elderly physically and mentally frail people, particularly those suffering from dementia.
An extensive refurbishment has been undertaken, part of which included the replacement of LST (Low Surface Temperature) radiators installed in the home’s corridors, communal areas and bathrooms.
The refurbishment required the installation of space saving radiators that not only provided effective heating but also insured residents’ safety as a priority.
Given the specification brief the M&E consultants on the project specified Autron LST radiators. With a wall to front face depth of only 75mm, the Autron ‘Slenderline’ is one of the slimmest LST radiators on the UK market. In addition, units equipped with Autron’s 3H2W emitters, are fully compliant with NHS Guidance Notes: Safe hot water and surface temperatures.
These radiators’ cases have been tested not to exceed 43º C during operation. This makes Autron Slenderlines ideal for installation where space is at a premium, such as in corridors but a safe surface temperature heat source is a must.
Slenderlines, as with all Autron natural convection radiators, use innovative copper tube and aluminium fin heat emitters.
These emitters contain less water than typical conventional flat panel radiators, producing the same heat output. This means they can heat up and transfer that heat far more quickly and in a more controllable manner, than both panel radiators and underfloor heating systems.
A lack of system responsiveness can result in a heat ‘buffering’ effect where room temperatures can appreciably yo-yo and occupants can feel they are either ‘baking or freezing’. However as natural convection radiators heat up faster, Autron LSTs can be turned on later saving on energy costs whilst maintaining a comfortable environment – a vitally important consideration in a care home.
A video case study on the installation of Slenderline LST radiators at Elmhurst, is now available via the Autron website. Visit http://www.autron.co.uk/elmhurst-care-home/ to watch the video or download a PDF of the case study.
